On Sept. 18, Nintendo took action against Palworld, filing a patent infringement lawsuit citing similarities to Pokémon, and now developer Pocketpair has fired back with its official response.

Nintendo threw a curveball in the works when it revealed it has hit Palworld developer Pocketpair with an infringement lawsuit—presumably due to its Pokémon comparisons. Pocketpair has now responded to the lawsuit in a Sept. 19 post on X, saying the lawsuit is “unfortunate” but the company is beginning “the appropriate legal proceedings and investigations into the claims of patent infringement.”

Nintendo, alongside The Pokémon Company, has officially filed a lawsuit against Palworld’s developer Pocketpair many have expected since the indie game launched in January.

If you were waiting on Palworld to become free to play like most live-service titles have become these days, the developers say you’re out of luck.

Palworld’s developers issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Sept. 14 clarifying Pocketpair’s decision to steer clear of an F2P or game-as-a-service model for the hit survival crafting experience. The air-clearing stance was was aimed at allaying community-wide concerns that had popped up after a report indicated the devs might be considering switching to F2P in the future.

PlayStation players may finally get the chance to play Palworld soon, as the game’s appearance at the Tokyo Game Show suggests news is imminent.

As spotted by Gematsu and reported by GamesRadar, Palworld is listed among the games that will be exhibited at the show. While that isn’t a surprise as it’s made by Japanese developer Pocket Pair, the exhibitor listing shared by Gematsu lists Palworld as being playable on PlayStation 5.
